Before taking the next steps, you’ll want to research HVAC job duties and be sure it’s the right career for you. The job is very technical and requires quite a bit of hard work and commitment. If you are interested in becoming a certified HVAC technician but aren’t sure where to start, follow these four steps.

  1. Graduate From High School
  2. Enroll in Classes
  3. Get Hands-On Job Experience
  4. Get Certified

1) Graduate From High School

The first step to becoming HVAC certified is receiving your high school diploma. If you’re still in high school, talk with your guidance counselor about taking courses that would be useful in your path to becoming an HVAC tech. If you haven’t graduated from high school, consider getting your GED online or remotely.

2) Enroll in Classes

Next, you’ll want to find an HVAC training center. Choose a reputable school that will offer hands-on training. You’ll also want to make sure that the class times align with your schedule.

3) Hands-On Job Experience

It’s critical to get experience working on HVAC systems as soon as possible. You’ll want to choose a school that has experienced instructors that are passionate about what they do and want to provide the best job training.

4) Get Certified

The final step is to get your HVAC technician certification to work on air conditioning and heating systems in your state. It will definitely take patience, consistency, and practice. Fortunately, these programs can take as little as 14 weeks.
